The editors and judging panel of The World of Fine Wine reviewed wine lists from around the world and awarded Three Stars, its highest rating, to Morrell Wine Bar, judging it to have not only the Best By-the-Glass wine list in North America but also the Best By-the-Glass Wine List in the World.
The Morrell Wine Bar Wine List, featuring over 100 wines by the glass, was created by Morrell Wine Director, Tom Stanley and Anna Christina Cabrales, Wine Bar Sommelier and Assistant General Manager. Tom and Anna-Christina update it constantly. “It’s an honor to be recognized, especially for the hard work we put into it,” Anna said.
Calling the list remarkable, the judges said Morrell Wine Bar was “a clear winner for the depth and range of its offer. For the curious wine-lover, the list at the New York establishment (first opened in 1999) is a mouthwatering invitation to explore, with a depth and creativity that is missing in many restaurants’ core, bottle-based lists. Presented with intelligent, informative notes, the choices are divided by color and region, and are sourced from around the world, with particular strengths in Burgundy, Bordeaux, California, and Italy, concluding with a small selection of “fine wines” such as Château Léoville-Barton 2000 and Kistler Vineyard Chardonnay 2005.”
The World of Fine Wine is a widely respected, international wine magazine based in the U.K., “speaking to an international readership of discerning individuals who each share a passion for wine.”
Each year its editors and an outside panel select the best wine lists from around the world. The panel includes: Andrew Jefford, the World’s Best Sommelier 2010; Gerard Basset MS MW OBE; Francis Percival, WFW columnist and food editor; Elin McCoy, author and wine and spirits columnist for Bloomberg News; Ch’ng Poh Tiong, publisher of The Singapore Wine Review and wine columnist for Singapore’s largest circulation Chinese newspaper, the Lianhe Zaobao; Tom Stevenson, author and globally respected Champagne expert.
