Armand Heitz for most Burgundy lovers is a new name and those that are deeply following the daily changes in the Cote d’Or know that this is one estate to keep a close eye on. Reformed as Heitz-Lochardet and now simply just Armand Heitz, this property is a story of a family slowly regaining the estates' historical vineyards. From 1983 to 2012, Heitz-Lochardet was a grape supplier to Maison Joseph Drouhin. When Armand Heitz, the grandson of Armand Lochardet, finished his studies in oenology, he began the slow process of expiring the contract on the estate vineyards and began to produce the estate wines of Heitz-Lochardet once again. Today, the estate is simply labeled as Armand Heitz. We have tracked the vintages 2014 to 2021 and we have found that we are very captivated by Armand’s white wines. His gentle touch delivers wines that are graceful and extremely aromatic. The mid-texture of the wines stand out for taking these reserved and refined expressions of the wines into another register without being bold or jarring. It is a slow progression of tension and texture that unfolds as the aromatics leap from the glass. The Armand Heitz Premier Cru whites are wines that typically are full of herb and spice aromatics that accentuate the fruit and coiled textures. These are fun wines to explore and watch evolve over the course of a meal and the best part is that they are still relatively affordable in the grand scheme of Premier Cru white Burgundy. Cheers, |
